In the winter semester of 2023/24, Museum Ludwig partnered with the Köln International School of Design (KISD) to reimagine the "Langer Donnerstag", the evening when many of Cologne's museums stay open until 10 p.m. The brief was to give this established event a fresh visual identity, flexible enough to work across a wide range of media.
My concept is built around a single, adaptable design language: geometric square forms. I chose squares because they are timeless, clear, and endlessly combinable – a modular system that can generate a whole family of distinct outcomes. Paired with a clean sans-serif typeface, black-and-white photography, and warm pastel tones, the result feels both contemporary and unmistakably "Langer Donnerstag."
I applied the system across posters, Instagram posts, beach flags, and deckchairs, and adapted it for special exhibitions, including multilingual variations. I also proposed an interactive "LaDo Stamp Wall," where visitors use square-shaped stamps to create their own compositions and become part of the identity.
My design was awarded second place.
